Setting up a VPNUK SMART DNS connection on WDTV.

Setting up the VPNUK Smart DNS service is simple, quick and very easy to customise to your specific requirements. In order to get started you first have to register your current IP with our system in order to gain access to the DNS service, if your ISP assign you with a dynamic IP or if it ever changes you will have to re-register the IP! Registering your IP is a quick and automated process that takes just a few seconds to do from the Client CP.

Basic Setup Instructions

1. Login to the Client CP and go to VPNUK Smart DNS from the right hand menu.
2. Register your current IP address in the permitted connection whitelist.
3. Go to the custom DNS server setting for your internet connection and enter the IP of the VPNUK Smart DNS server that you'd like to use.
4. Save the settings. (Restart your internet connection).
5. Thats It! You should now be connected to the VPNUK Smart DNS service.

Part 1 - Registering your IP on the SmartDNS service

1. Login to the Client CP using your VPNUK login username and password.

2. Go to the 'VPNUK Smart DNS' sub menu and select 'IP Address Check-in'.

3. The Smart DNS system will reveal your current IP address in the textbox labelled 'IP address to enable', Enter a friendly name for this IP (optional) and then click the 'Enable' button, that will register that IP address on the Smart DNS service.

4. The Smart DNS system will confirm your IP address has been registered, it takes just a couple of minutes become enabled on the service.

5. After a couple of minutes the IP will be displayed as 'Enabled'. You can now use the Smart DNS service from your registered IP address.

6. You can now make a note of the Smart DNS Server IP, you need this IP in order to connect to the Smart DNS Service. Click onto the 'Smart DNS Server IP' link in the menu.

7. Copy or make a note of the 'Smart DNS Server IP' that you are to use, you will need this later in the setup.

 

Part 2 - Western Digital WDTV Setup

1. Select 'Setup'.

4. Select your connection type and ensure the IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway are correct then enter the 'Smart DNS Server IP' into the DNS field. You can find these settings in the VPNUK Smart DNS section of the Client CP.

5. Click on 'Finish'.

6. Thats It! In order to be sure the settings are active you should Disable/Enable the internet connection or reboot your device.
