Setting up WireGuard® VPNUK on GL.iNET Routers
This guide will walk you through the installation and configuration of WireGuard VPN on GL.iNet routers using VPNUK. GL.iNet routers come with native WireGuard support, making setup quick and easy for a fast, secure, and private VPN connection.WireGuard® configuration download
Please login using the VPN login username and password from the vpn account you would like to configure.
Click Here to download your WireGuard® configuration file, which is compatible with all devices.
IMPORTANT NOTES: A WireGuard® connection is currently only compatible with our Dedicated IP accounts. Each configuration file is generated automatically, twice per hour, the process can take up to 20 minutes to complete, it can therefore sometimes take up to 1 hour for a new configuration file to be created on new accounts. If you are a new user please allow the system time to generate your configuration file.
1: Access Your GL.iNet Router Admin Panel
- Connect your computer or mobile device to your GL.iNet router via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Open a web browser and go to:
- http://192.168.8.1 (Default GL.iNet Admin Panel)
- Log in using your router credentials (default username:
admin
).
2. Download Your VPNUK WireGuard Configuration File
- Click here to download the WireGuard configuration file from our server.
- Log in with your VPNUK VPN account login username and password.
- The system will fetch your WireGuard configuration file from the VPNUK server.
- Save it to your computer or mobile device.
3. Import the VPNUK WireGuard Configuration File into Your GL.iNet Router
- In the GL.iNet Admin Panel, go to VPN > WireGuard Client.
- Click Add a New Configuration.
- Select Import Configuration File.
- Upload the vpnuk wireguard configuration file you downloaded earlier.
- Click Apply to save the settings.
4. Connect to VPNUK via WireGuard
- In the WireGuard Client section, find your VPNUK WireGuard profile
- Click Connect to connect the VPN.
- Once connected, WireGuard will show your Public IP, VPN endpoint, and handshake status.To confirm the connection, check your new IP address by visiting: https://www.ipaddress.com/
Your IP should now match your unique VPNUK IP.

Optional Settings
1. Enable Auto-Start for WireGuard VPN
To automatically connect to VPNUK on router startup:
- Go to VPN > WireGuard Client.
- Select your VPNUK connection.
- Enable “Auto Start”.
- Click Save.
Now, your GL.iNet router will automatically connect to VPNUK WireGuard whenever it starts up.
2. Configure VPN Routing (Optional – Use VPN on Specific Devices Only)
By default, all devices connected to your router use the VPN. You can manually select which devices use the VPN and which bypass it.
- Go to VPN > VPN Policy.
- Enable “Policy Based Routing”.
- Choose one of the following:
- VPN for all devices – Uses the VPN for everything.
- VPN for selected devices only – Allows only chosen devices to use the VPN.
- Bypass VPN for selected devices – Allows only selected devices to bypass the VPN.
- Click Apply to save your settings.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Cannot connect to VPNUK servers?
- Ensure your WireGuard configuration file is correct and up to date, we would always recommend fetching a new configuration file from our server if you are unable to connect. Click here to download a new configuration file.
- Try restarting your router and modem (if applies)
- Check if your ISP is blocking VPN connections
VPN is connected, but no internet?
- Open WireGuard and go to your tunnel settings.
- Ensure
AllowedIPs = 0.0.0.0/0, ::/0
is set correctly. - Try disabling IPv6 in your router settings
