PC Tools Firewall
First check that it is PC Tools’ problem by disabling the firewall and then try and connect to the VPN. If you can connect to the VPN then try the following, don’t forget to re-enable the firewall first!
You will need to add some rules to make this work.
RULE 1:
1. Go to ‘advanced rules’ in PC Tools Firewall, Click on the tab ‘trusted zone’, Click on the green plus to add a rule
2.Tick ‘where the ethernet type is’, click on ‘undefined’ and then select ‘ip’ then click on ‘OK’
3.Tick ‘where the protocol is’, click on ‘change protocol’ below, select ‘TCP’ then click on ‘OK’
4.Tick ‘where the remote port is’, click on ‘undefined’, select ‘match port’, ‘sub type’ should be ‘equals’
and type ‘1723’ in the port field then click on ‘OK’
5. Then click on ‘Next’
6. Then tick ‘allow’ (make sure you do this as it’s blocked by default) , then click on Finish
7. Click on ‘Apply’ in the ‘advanced rules’ section
RULE 2:
1. Go to ‘Advanced Rules’ in PC Tools Firewall, Click on the tab ‘Trusted Zone’, Click on the green plus to add a rule
2. Tick ‘where the ethernet type is’, click on ‘undefined’ and then select ‘ip’ then click on ‘OK’
3. Tick ‘where the protocol is’, click on ‘change protocol’ below, select 47-GRE
4. Then click on ‘Next’
5. Then tick ‘allow’ (make sure you do this as it’s blocked by default) , then click on Finish
6. Click on ‘Apply’ in the ‘advanced rules’ section
RULE 3
1. Go to ‘advanced rules’ in PC Tools Firewall, Click on the tab ‘internet zone’, Click on the green plus to add a rule
2. Tick ‘where the ethernet type is’, click on ‘undefined’ and then select ‘ip’ then click on ‘OK’
4 Tick ‘where the remote ip’ is, click on ‘undefined’ below, make sure ‘match address’ and ‘equals’ are selected
then type in the remote ip address of you vpn.
5. Then click on ‘Next’
6. Then tick ‘allow’ (make sure you do this as it’s blocked by default) , then click on Finish
7. Click on ‘Apply’ in the ‘advanced rules’ section
Repeat step 3 for any other vpn IP server addresses you have
