Setting up an IKEv2 connection on AppleTV (tvOS v17+)
We have made configuring an IKEv2 VPN connection on Apple TV as simple as possible by providing a pre-configured IKEv2 profile (.mobileconfig
) that can be installed directly onto your device. This guide covers multiple methods to install and configure the VPN on Apple TV running tvOS 17+.
1. Start Configuration
To begin, you need to generate your VPNUK IKEv2 VPN profile.
Click Here to log in and configure your IKEv2 connection. Our system will automatically email the configuration file to you, or you can download it manually.
2. Choose a Server
- Shared IP Accounts: You can select any or multiple servers from our list.
- Dedicated IP Accounts: Your assigned server details will be automatically pre-configured in the file.
3. Download or Receive the Configuration File
You have four options to get the .mobileconfig
file onto your Apple TV:
Option 1: Download the File Directly
- Use Safari on another Apple device (iPhone, iPad, or Mac) to download the file.
- Save the file to iCloud Drive for access on Apple TV.
Option 2: Email the File to Yourself
- Confirm your email address in the VPNUK Client Area and click Continue.
- The email will arrive in a few minutes.
- Open your Apple TV email app and download the attachment.
Option 3: Use AirDrop (Recommended for Apple Devices)
- On Mac or iPhone, locate the
.mobileconfig
file. - Right-click → Share → AirDrop → Select your Apple TV.
- Accept the file on Apple TV and follow the installation steps.
Option 4: Use MDM Enrollment (For IT Admins & Bulk Installations)
- If your Apple TV is managed by an MDM system, deploy the VPNUK profile via MDM.
- The VPN will install automatically on all enrolled devices.
4. Install the VPN Profile on Apple TV
Once the .mobileconfig
file is on your Apple TV, follow these steps:
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → VPN & Device Management.
- Select “Add VPN Configuration”.
- Choose “Import Configuration” and select the downloaded file.
- A window will open containing the certificate information.
- Click “Install”.
- You may receive a warning that you are about to install a VPN Root Certificate. Click “Install” again.
- Enter your VPNUK account password when prompted and click Next.
- Once installed, click “Done”.
5. Connect to VPNUK VPN
Now that your VPN profile is installed:
- Open Settings on Apple TV.
- Navigate to Privacy & Security → VPN.
- Select VPNUK IKEv2 VPN.
- Click “Connect”.
- Once connected, your Apple TV network traffic is secured through VPNUK.
6. Verify VPN Connection
- Go to Settings → Network.
- Check that the VPN status is “Connected”.
- Confirm the VPN is working.
7. Troubleshooting
VPN Not Connecting?
- Restart your Apple TV.
- Delete and reinstall the VPNUK profile.
- Check your VPNUK login credentials.
- Ensure your server selection is correct.
Final Notes
- This method requires tvOS 17 or newer.
- Once installed, VPNUK will work automatically whenever the VPN is enabled.
