How to Set Up IKEv2 VPN on Windows 11 with VPNUK

This guide will walk you through manually setting up an IKEv2 VPN connection on Windows 11 using VPNUK’s secure VPN service. The setup process requires the installation of a VPNUK IKEv2 certificate and configuring the connection through Windows Network Settings.

1. Download and Install the VPNUK IKEv2 Certificate

  1. Download the VPNUK IKEv2 Certificate: IKEv2 Certificate File
  2. Extract the Certificate to a secure location on your PC.

2. Install the IKEv2 Certificate in Windows 11

  1. Open Microsoft Management Console (MMC):

    • Press Win + R, type mmc, and press Enter.
  2. Add/Remove Snap-in:

    • In the MMC window, click on File > Add/Remove Snap-in.
  3. Add Certificates:

    • Select Certificates and click Add.
  4. Manage Certificates for the Computer Account:

    • Choose Computer account and click Next.
  5. Select Local Computer:

    • Ensure the snap-in manages Local Computer and click Finish.
  6. Confirm Selection:

    • Click OK to return to the MMC window.
  7. Import the Certificate:

    • Expand Certificates (Local Computer) > Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
    • Right-click on Certificates, select All Tasks > Import.
  8. Certificate Import Wizard:

    • Click Next and then Browse to locate the ikev2.crt certificate.
  9. Select Certificate File:

    • Choose the ikev2.crt file and click Next.
  10. Place the Certificate in Trusted Root Authorities:

  • Ensure the certificate is placed in Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
  • Click Next, then Finish.
  1. Confirm Import:
  • Expand Certificates > Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
  • Click Certificates and verify that VPNUK Root CA is listed.
  1. Close the MMC Console:
  • Select NO when asked to save console settings.

3. Configure the IKEv2 VPN Connection

  • Open Network Settings:

    • Press Win + I to open Windows Settings.
    • Go to Network & Internet > VPN.
    • Click Add VPN.
  • Enter VPNUK VPN Details:

    • VPN Provider: Windows (built-in)
    • Connection Name: VPNUK IKEv2
    • Server Name or Address: (Enter your VPNUK server from your members area or welcome email)
    • VPN Type: IKEv2
    • Type of Sign-in Info: Username and password
  • Save the VPN Connection and return to the VPN settings page.

4. Modify VPN Connection Properties

  • Click on the VPNUK IKEv2 VPN connection, then click Advanced options.
  • Scroll down and click Edit adapter options.
  • Right-click on the VPNUK IKEv2 connection, then select Properties.
  • Go to the Security tab:
    • Type of VPN: IKEv2
    • Authentication Method: Microsoft Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAPv2)
  • Disable IPv6:
    • Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).
  • Click OK to save changes.

5. Connect to VPNUK Using IKEv2

  1. Click on the networking icon in the system tray.
  2. Select VPNUK IKEv2 VPN.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. Enter your VPNUK username and password, then click OK.

Your Windows 11 computer is now connected to VPNUK using IKEv2!
