Frequently Asked Questions

A Dedicated IP is a static IP address assigned exclusively to your account — it is never shared with any other user. Unlike a Shared IP VPN where your address changes with every connection, a Dedicated IP remains the same. This is useful if you need to whitelist your IP on business systems, avoid shared IP blocks on streaming services, or maintain a consistent online identity for banking and finance.
Standard Dedicated IP accounts use genuine residential IP addresses — not datacentre IPs. They carry a residential classification and are far less likely to be blocked by services that flag datacentre ranges. 1:1 Dedicated IP accounts use static IP addresses but are not classified as residential — they are server-grade IPs suited to running services and accepting incoming connections.
Both account types give you your own exclusive static IP address. The key difference is NAT and IP type. Standard Dedicated IP accounts use residential IPs and operate behind NAT, which provides DDoS protection but limits incoming connections. A 1:1 Dedicated IP is not residential and not NAT'd — it provides a true 1:1 server-grade connection, meaning you can accept unrestricted incoming connections, run servers and services, and set custom PTR rDNS records for your IP.
Custom PTR / rDNS records are available on 1:1 Dedicated IP accounts and on Dedicated IP servers UK14 to UK22. To set a custom rDNS record you must first create an A record with your DNS provider pointing your domain to your dedicated IP, then contact VPNUK support and we will configure the PTR record at our end.
Basic DDoS protection comes as standard with all Shared IP and Dedicated IP accounts due to the NAT methodology used on those servers. Server monitoring with automated and manual detection is also in place. Note: 1:1 Dedicated IP accounts are not NAT'd — they offer a true 1:1 connection, so the NAT-based DDoS layer does not apply.
Yes. Dedicated IP account holders can switch their IP and/or server once per week from the Members Area. Log in to your account, select 'VPNUK Account Details', go to the Dedicated IP subscription and follow the on-screen prompts.
WireGuard is available on Dedicated IP accounts only. Because WireGuard assigns a static tunnel IP to each user, it is only compatible with Dedicated IP where a fixed IP can be allocated to you. Shared IP and 1:1 accounts use OpenVPN, IKEv2 and L2TP/IPSec.

Yes. Both Dedicated IP and 1:1 Dedicated IP accounts include free unlimited access to the entire Shared IP platform — over 30 server locations worldwide. This means you get the best of both worlds: your own personal IP, plus access to the full shared server network whenever you need it.
