ASUS Router VPN Setup
ASUS routers with ASUSWRT or ASUSWRT-Merlin firmware have a built-in OpenVPN client with a GUI that makes setup straightforward.
Where are my VPN credentials?
Your VPN username and password are in the Members Area under VPNUK Account Details. These are different from your Members Area login.
1
Generate Your OpenVPN Config
Log in to the Members Area and generate an OpenVPN config file (
.ovpn). Download it to your computer.2
Log In to ASUS Router Admin
Open a browser and go to
192.168.1.1 (or router.asus.com). Log in with your admin credentials.3
Navigate to VPN Client
Go to VPN → VPN Client. Click Add profile. Select OpenVPN.
4
Import Config File
Click Choose file and select your downloaded
.ovpn file. The router will automatically populate most settings. Enter your VPNUK VPN username and password.5
Activate the VPN
Click OK to save the profile. Back on the VPN Client page, click Activate. The status will change to Connected.
Tip: ASUSWRT-Merlin (enhanced firmware) offers more control including policy-based routing so you can choose which devices use the VPN. Visit asuswrt-merlin.net to upgrade your firmware.
